Known as "Professor" Adam, William Adam gave art lessons in his rose-covered cottage at 450 Central Avenue. With a bright and colorful palette of both oil and watercolor, he specialized in views of the Monterey area such as sand dunes, cottage and garden scenes, and the local flora.

ADAMS, Charles Partridge (1858-1942). Landscape painter. Born in Franklin, MA on Jan 12,1858. For health reasons, Adams moved to Denver at the age 18 and found work as an engraver in a bookstore.

ALBERT, Karl (1911- ) Painter, teacher. Born in Halstead, KS in 1911. Albert grew up in Wyoming. He began painting about 1930 while working as a postmaster in Oro Grande, a small town in the Mojave desert.

ARTIST WORLD RECORD

Born in Monroe, Wisconsin, Adam Albright was one of the first students at the newly established Art Institute of Chicago from 1881 to 1883 and went on to become a noted landscape, still life, and figure painter, especially of country children.  Likely some of his earliest work was done in Kansas because he was a graduate of Kansas University.

ALDRIN, Anders Gustave (1889-1970).   Painter, printmaker, lithographer.  Born in Varmland, Sweden on Aug. 29, 1889.  Aldrin showed artistic promise at an early age, and when his family opposed an art career, he immigrated to the U.S. in 1911. 


Combining both modernism and realism, Mabel Alvarez became a well-known 20th century West Coast female artist of portraits, still lifes, and landscapes.
