Born in 1890, in Millville, New Jersey, George Brandriff moved to California in 1914 and enrolled in the University of Southern California's dental school.

Born in San Diego, Rex Brandt (1914-2000) was a painter of broad, splashy, cubist watercolors and became a foremost leader of California artists who brought national attention to California artists in the 1930s and 1940s.

ARTIST WORLD RECORD

A leading member of the avant-garde symbolist artists in Chicago, Claude Buck moved there from his birth place of New York City in 1919. He was known for his "fantastic, sometimes disturbing images with allegorical and literary themes" (Kennedy 97) drawn from writings of Edgar Allen Poe, operas by Richard Wagner, classical mythology and New Testament writings from the Bible.
