Couse, Eanger Irving

Born in Saginaw, Michigan, Eanger Couse is primarily known for Taos Pueblo Indian males sitting or squatting by camp fire light, suggesting that Indians were peaceful, dignified human beings and not the savages of Western lore.

Coutts, Alice

Born in England, Alice Coutts is best known for her paintings of Indian children and shows the influence of one of her teachers, Grace Carpenter Hudson with whom her work was sometimes confused. She also did landscapes and still life.

Coutts, Gordon

Born in Glasgow, Scotland on Oct. 3, 1868, Gordon Coutts studied art in Glasgow, London, and in Paris at Académie Julian under Lefebvre, Fleury, and Rossi.

Craig, Thomas

Born in Upland, California, Tom Craig became a landscape, portrait and figure painter whose early career was in illustration but whose later focus was fine-art painting. He became a major figure in The California Style of watercolor painting.
