Clyde (Vic) Forsythe entered the comic strip world prior to World War I.  His most successful feature was the long-running Joe Jinks, which dealt successively with automobiles, aviation, and boxing.  He drew a number of other strips, and for a time, shared a studio with Norman Rockwell.

Benjamin Foster's painting specialty was bucolic scenes of the New England countryside.   His style was predominantly Tonalist with subdued colors and limited tones---almost exclusively autumn colors, muted browns, grays and rusts.   In Tonalist tradition, he completed most of his paintings, both oil and watercolor, in his studio and not on location, "en plein air."

John Bond Francisco was born in Cincinnati, OH on Dec. 14, 1863.  From an early age Francisco was drawn to both music and art.  He studied the violin with Hermann Eckhardt and painting at the Cincinnati Art Academy for several years.

Born in Hillsboro, Ohio, Charles Fries was referred to as the dean of San Diego artists from the time he settled in that city in 1897. His reputation was based on magnificent atmospheric desert landscapes, many of them showing historical scenes of the state.

Born in Owosso, Michigan, Frederick Frieseke became a leading American Impressionist, his principal subject being a single voluptuous female figure, often nude, in a colorful outdoor setting of sun dappled light.  A frequent model was his wife, and together they shopped for costumes including the parasols that were so frequently held by his subjects.
