An artist of the vanishing West, Edgar Paxson was on the frontier just before Frederic Remington and Charles Russell, and his 1877 arrival in Montana occurred when Chief Joseph and the Nez Perce Indians were warring their way through Canada. 

Born in Baltimore and raised in Newton, Massachusetts, William Paxton became a prominent late 19th, early 20th-century figure painter, especially noted for female subjects, and a key artist in the establishment of American Impressionism.  Paxton also painted outdoor views of upper class life such as croquet games and hotel verandah scenes.

A landscape, floral and portrait painter, Elsie Palmer Payne had a career that was early subverted to that of her husband, Edgar Payne, but was much recognized later in her life and posthumously.  Her primary medium was gouache, and her great interest was painting people, although she also did landscapes.

Born in Stuttgart, Germany to American parents, Agnes Pelton was a pioneering American modernist who spent most of her childhood in Switzerland and France. 

Born in Woodford, Essex, England, he became a noted Southwest painter of landscape and its dwellers.
