ARTIST WORLD RECORD

A leading Boston painter in the style of Impressionism, Edmund Tarbell was born in West Groton, Massachusetts, and raised in Boston where as a teacher at the Boston Museum School influenced a succeeding generation of Impressionists who became known as the Boston School.

ARTIST WORLD RECORD

Perhaps best remembered for his volcano paintings of Hawaii, Jules Tavernier also painted notable scenes of the West.   Born in Paris, Jules Tavernier had a father who was English and a French mother, and Jules claimed British citizenship.   As a child he lived in both England and France.  As a young man he studied with artist Felix Barrias in Paris, and in 1864 began to exhibit at the Paris Salon.  He also painted in Barbizon, France.

ARTIST WORLD RECORD

A leading illustrator of western subjects for the Saturday Evening Post, Donald Teague  became a founding member of the National Academy of Western Art in 1973.  His pseudonymn was "Edwin Dawes", a name he used when he did illustrations for Colliers magazine because that publication and the Post were great rivals, and he did not want to appear to be serving both of them.

A painter of pop-art realism combined with a great respect for traditional methods and subject matter, Wayne Thiebaud is one of the most prominent of the Bay Area painters in California in the latter part of the 20th century. His reputation spread far beyond his own state. 

Anthony Thieme was born on February 20, 1888 in Rotterdam, Holland. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague, Holland, under George Hacker; Garlobini, Guardaciona; and Mancini in Italy. He also studied in Germany.

ARTIST WORLD RECORD

Born in Windham, New Hampshire, Mary Titcomb was a professional artist in the Boston area and regularly traveled and painted in the West. She was also a long-time art teacher in the Massachusetts public schools, a career she ended in 1901 when she was age forty-four to become a full-time artist.
