A painter of California history and western landscapes, Manuel Valencia was born in Marin County, California in 1856 on the Rancho San Jose, the Valencia hacienda.  The family received many land grants in the San Francisco area because of their ties to settlement history. 

Painter, lithographer. Born in Vienna, Austria on April 15, 1906. Van Young studied art in Vienna and received a scholarship to continue at the Academy of Art in Odessa, Russia.

Frederick Porter Vinton — painter of portraits, figures, and landscapes — was born in Bangor, ME on January 29, 1846 and died in Boston, MA on May 19, 1911. He was active from the 1870s right up to his death in 1911.

In the development of American Impressionism, Robert Vonnoh is significant both as a painter and as a teacher. He was one of the earliest painters to bring European impressionism to America and his canvases had cool tones and balanced compositions with much capturing of light and atmosphere. He completed more than 500 commissioned portraits, and he had a distinguished teaching career in Boston and Philadelphia.

Painter, muralist. Born in Le Mars, IA on Dec. 23, 1873 of Scottish parents. Luvena was educated in Pittsburgh, KS.
