ARTIST WORLD RECORD

Painter.  Born on a farm near Riceville, IA on Oct. 8, 1872. 

After moving to Northern California in 1893, Cutting settled in Campbell.  He remained a resident there for the rest of his life except during 1920-25 when he maintained a studio-home in nearby Pacific Grove. 

Following graduation form San Jose State College, he taught school for a short while near Paso Robles but soon opted for an art career. 

In 1927, Cutting built a studio and home at 125 Harrison Avenue and remained there until his death on June 8, 1964.  A prolific oil painter, he used a bright palette to create impressionistic landscapes and coastals. 

His paintings locales included Yosemite, Death Valley, grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Pacific Grove, Columbia River, Crater Lake, the Redwood Highway, and the Santa Cruz mountains. 

Member:  Santa Cruz Art League. 

Exhibited:  San Jose State College, 1897; Sacramento, 1923; Oakland Art Gallery, 1932; Santa Cruz Art League, 1937; Grump's; CPLH, 1930s; Stanford Art Gallery, 1925, 1928, 1933, 1939 (with Otis Hyde); Calif. State Fairs.
