ARTIST WORLD RECORD

Painter. Born in Redlands, CA on April 6, 1906.

Dike first studied art at Redlands High School under Louise Arnold. Upon graduation, he continued at the Chouinard School in Los Angeles under Hinkle and Chamberlin followed by studt at the ASL in NYC under Bridgman, Luks and DuMond.

In 1930 he had one year of training in France at the American Academy at Fontainebleau and, while there, exhibited at the Paris Salon.

Upon returning from Europe, he taught intermittently at Chouinard’s for 20 tears, worked in the art department of Walt Disney Studios (1935-45), and from 1950-71 was a member of the art faculty at Scripps College and Claremont Graduate School.

As professor emeritus, today he maintained homes in Claremont and Cambria while specializing in marines and caostal scenes in watercolor.

His works have won many awards from 1931 at California State Fairs, LA County Fairs, LACMA.

Member: NA (1953); Calif. WC Society (Pres. 1938-39); Philadelphia WC Club; Foundation of Western Art; Progressive Painters of So. Calif.; American WC Society; Laguna Beach AA.

Exhibited: Pacific Southwest Exhibition, Long Beach, 1927 (bronze medal); CPLH, 1934 (solo); SFMA Inaugural, 1935; GGIE, 1939; LACMA, 1943 (solo); Scripps College, 1986, 1988 (solo). Works held: NAD; MM; LACMA; Pasadena Art Inst.; Library of Congress; Scripps College, Claremont; San Bernardino County Museum. SCA; AAA 1933; WWAA 1936-70; CA & A; So. Calif. Artists 1890-1940.
