California Art Auction is a service of John Moran Auctioneers, the leading auction house specializing in California art.

Frandzen, Eugene M.

Frandzen, Eugene M. (1893-1972).

Painter, etcher, lithographer, commercial artist Born in San Diego, CA in 1893.

Frandzen spent his childhood in San Diego. During the years 1911-17 he studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and AIC. While serving in the Army during WWI, he sketched in France.

Following the war, he established a commercial art studio in NYC. During this time he had further study at the local ASL and Grand Central Art School. While there, he painted many winter scenes of the Catskill Mountains and did drawings of NYC from which he used to make etchings and lithographs.

Returning to California in 1937, he settled in Pasadena and remained until his death in Orange County on July 5, 1972.

He was equally facile with oil, watercolor, gouache, and charcoal.
