ARTIST WORLD RECORD

Painter. Born in Chicago, IL on June 10, 1888 of Czech descent.

Gavencky studied at the AIC and the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, as well as with Antonin Sterba and Charles W. Dahlgreen. His one-man show at the Pasadena Art Institute in 1931 received rave reviews.

His love of the Pacific Coast brought him to California often during the 1930s to exhibit and paint, and where he wrought a prolific body of work including Pacific Grove seascapes, peopled street scenes, southern California desert cactus studies, and farm scenes.

He also painted landscapes of Rancho Santa Fe and Ramona where he resided until his demise on Feb. 13, 1966.
