Henry, Harry Raymond PDF Print E-mail
Harry Henry is known for his unique painting using a bright palette and defined brush stroke in a style reminiscent of pointillism.

Henry grew up in the Midwest and began his art training there, working as an apprentice for a local draftsman until he was old enough to attend the Art Institute of Chicago. He went on to the St. Louis Academy and later studied in Minnesota as a pupil of John C. Johansen.

At the turn of the century Henry lived in New York City where he had a studio. In 1910 he moved to Los Angeles, California, to continue painting. During the 1920s he moved north of Los Angeles to San Juan Capistrano, where he set up a studio in an adobe house. There he painted scenes of Southern California using a combination of bold blues, reds and lavenders.

By 1929 Henry was working as an art critic for the 'Hollywood Citizens News'. He exhibited his work at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 1932 and the California Palace of the Legion of Honor in 1947. Henry relocated to the area of Three Arch Bay near Laguna in the 1940s. He was an active painter until his eyesight weakened in the 1960s. Henry died in Costa Mesa, California.
