ARTIST WORLD RECORD

Landscape painter, etcher, craftsperson, architect.

Immigrated to Chicago via Hamburg and NYC in 1904. After training as an architect, he ran his own firm from 1909-20, devoting most of his time to painting thereafter. In 1907 he married Christiana Ackermann, who also became a painter. They divided their time between homes in Michigan and California, also taking trips to Europe and North Africa.

Studied: mainly self-taught, he seems to have received some instruction in Munich, Germany, through the patronage of Prince Carl Fugger.

Member: Chicago Gal. Assn.; Saugatuck AA; Chicago P&S; Riverside AA. Exhibited: AIC, 1927 (prize); Ill. Assn. FA, Springfield, 1928 (prize); Pasadena Art Inst., 1928; All-Calif. Exhib., 1939.

Work: State Mus., Springfield, L; mural, Paw Paw (MI) H.S.; pub. schools in Gary (IN), Holland (MI), LaGrange (IL); Univ. Illinois.
