Jackson, Everett Gee

Jackson, Everett Gee (1900-1995).

Painter, lithographer, illustrator. Born in Mexia, TX on Oct. 8, 1900.

Jackson attended Texas A & M University, AIC, USC (M.A.), and San Diego State College where he later was a professor of art from 1930-63.

He was active in Mexico during 1924-28 and, while there, was influenced by Rivera and Orozco.

He illustrated the classic Ramona by Helen Hunt Jackson.

As a specialist on pre-Columbian art, he wrote articles on the subject. he was honored by the Limited Editions Club and Heritage Press for his outstanding contributions.

Member: San Diego Art Guild (Pres.); Foundation of Western Art; Laguna Beach AA; American Ass’n of University Professors.

Exhibited: Calif. State Fair, 1930; SFMA Inaugural, 1935; GGIE, 1939; CPLH, 1946; Calif. Centennial Exh., 1950.

Awards: hon. mention, Bohemian Club, 1928; Anne Bremer prize, SFAA, 1929; hon. mention, 1930 and Leisser-Farnham prize, 1931, Southern Calif. Artists, San Diego; Laguna Beach AA, 1934; LACMA, 1934.

Works held: Houston Museum of FA; PAFA; LACMA; San Diego Museum. AAA 1933; WWAA 1936-73; PAP; Who’s Who in the West, 1954; Sam; CA&A; SCA.
