Painter, etcher.

Born in San Francisco, CA on Oct. 21, 1896.

After service in the Navy, Levy became an aide to Milton Marks, Sr. in the California Assembly in 1917.

Upon graduation from the CSFA, he opened a studio and began his career as a poster designer and freelance artist. In his leisure he etched and painted seascapes and scenes of the Mendocino coast.

He later worked as a graphic artist for Foster & Kleiser (billboards) and taught for many years at UC Extension in San Francisco.

The Chronicle art critic Alfred Frankenstein wrote, "Nat Levy's atmospheric renditions are so beautiful they seem as though they were painted with fog on his brush."

Levy was one of 25 American painters chosen to exhibit at the Royal Gallery in London in 1977. He often served as a judge at the state fairs in Sacramento and painted steadily for 70 years.

A lifelong resident of his native city, he died on Sept. 25, 1984.
