Miller, Evylena Nunn PDF Print E-mail

Miller, Evylena Nunn (1888-1966).

Painter.  Born in Mayfield, KS on July 4, 1888. 

Evylena Nunn settled in Santa Ana, Ca shortly after the turn of the century.  She studied with Anna Hills, Hannah Tempest Jenkins at Pomona College, ASL in NYC, and Berkshire Summer School of Art. 

She taught art at Claremont High School and Riverside Girls High School (1911-18) and Santa Ana High School (1920-22). 

She spent two years in Japan studying with Jippo Araki, and married Howard Miller in 1923. 

Her book, Travel Tree (1933), covers her travel in Japan, China, Egypt and the Holy Land. 

She also made many trips to paint the Indians of New Mexico and Colorado, and was director of Bowers Memorial Museum in 1956. 

Mrs. Miller died in Santa Ana on Feb. 26, 1966.
