ARTIST WORLD RECORD

Junn Roca is a Southern Californian artist who has dedicated his life to the study of painting. He has worked in diverse media as an artist, ranging from traditional fine arts painting to background animation. Junn has been associated with several large animation studios and earned numerous awards for his outstanding work as a background artist. In 1997 he was honored with an Emmy Award for his work with the highly acclaimed animated series, Animaniacs. In 1998 he was honored again for his work on Pinky and the Brain.
His plein-air paintings have also garnered him recognition. While a member of the Glendale Art Association he received numerous juried awards for excellence in painting. Despite his success in the animation industry, Junn is now seeking a return to his first true love, fine arts painting. While working on animation, he still frequented many natural surroundings around Los Angeles, studying the subtle interplay between light and shadow. He has also traveled extensively to Asia and Europe, expanding his scope of landscapes. There is perhaps no "typical" Junn Roca painting, as his subjects range from seascapes, to landscapes, to head studies, to still lifes, to portraits. What does unify his paintings is his expert use of color. His lifetime quest to understand painting and colors can be sensed as one studies a Junn Roca painting. His color choices go beyond simply capturing the details of his subjects. They communicate their moods and emotions. In addition to his knowledge and expertise in color, his work as a background artist for animation has given him an innate sense of staging his subjects, of organizing the elements within the field of vision to capture a mood or an emotion with great effect. The finished piece is a carefully crafted visual symphony of colors and of impressionistic gestures set within the stage of an artist's eye. Junn Roca is an artist member of the prestigious California Art Club, Laguna Plein Air Painters Association and Oil Painters of America.
