ARTIST WORLD RECORD

Born in NYC in 1857.

While in Pasadena in 1892, Smythe stayed several months at the Greene Hotel and painted in the Sierra Madre mountains.

In 1899 he was author of the book, Missions of California.

By 1919 he was a resident of Providence, RI and active in the local art scene.

He died in Townshend, VT in May 1932. A highly skilled landscape painter, his works are rare.

Member: Providence Art Club. Exh: Brooklyn AA, 1883; Boston Art Club, 1885-1900.
